The Netgear WNDR3700 is a solid bit of tech. It ends up being one of the more expensive consumer routers, but for some, the dual-band technology and guest networks will be worth it. The firmware is good and updating it is a snap- it can even check for updates every time you log into the console. You can change passwords, set up guest networks, decide what channel and speed you want, choose to broadcast your SSID, security- all the basic features that you'd come to expect with a router. My one complaint is that you cannot change the username for logging in- it's surprising Netgear left this off as it's a simple way to help increase security.
I suggest using WPA2 security on your main networks. If you have something that requires older security like WEP (such as the Nintendo DS) I would suggest utilizing one of the guest networks for just this purpose. If it does become compromised, your network is still secure from prying eyes.
If you're experiencing issues with interference or have a particularly congested neighborhood, I suggest using this along with free software called inSSIDer. It basically shows in graphical form what wireless networks in your area occupy space on the wireless spectrum. Combine this with the ability to select your channel via the console GUI and you can make this already great router just a little better by selecting a less-used channel.
The build quality is solid, though I was disappointed in the stand- it's plastic and not as solid as I would like. I had thought it was metal from the picture. It's a bit wobbly but still holds it just fine. Not perfect, but still good.
Overall this is a good purchase if you can make use of the dual-band N and G technologies. I'm running my one laptop at 300mbps and the rest of my wireless network at the standard 54mbps of wireless G.

After shopping around for a while and reading all the reviews I decided on the Netgear WNDR3700. Good value or the options it offers, though certainly not the cheapest. Followed the setup word for word. Got to where the cd is supposed to recognize the router and it said it was not the router. Unclear if its incompatible with windows 7 or not. The main issue I have is tech support guy twice tried to get me to call back later when it would be someone else's problem. Finally after several wires and different computers he admitted it was a bum router. Its ok to have some out of the box failures, how many they have I don't know. But the hassle factor is large. No off to pack it up and wait for the refund.

Received this router and hooked it up with the help of customer support...finally. It took a couple hours and was frustrating.
It was working fine but nothing spectacular considering I have the fastest speed cable internet Cox has to offer. Then I went to change the priorities and from that point on the router is almost useless. I even changed back to the original settings and nothing. Then I updated the firmware and it even got worse.
Now my internet is slow, I can't play one single round of Bomberman on my PS3 without it freezing up completely to the point of having to hold down the power button on the Playstation to turn it off.
Called back support and now they tell me I need to pay another $69 for special tech support or they can't help me. I can probably call back and get that straightened out where I don't have to pay but this is ridiculous to go through this for a supposed high end router.
This piece of junk is going back. To be honest my cheap $20 belkin I purchased from Walmart 2 years ago out performed this overall.
I just ordered a SMC gigabit router from Amazon and will let you know how it works out.

Had this up and running 24/7 for 6 months now. It took a little long going through the menu and settings and final tweaking to my setup. Also the auto-updater took a few hours to work when it first powered up. Set up took most of an afternoon with the 3 different computers and 6 devices that connect to it but once it was done it has worked flawlessly. The guest net works on the ssid. I know because I'm on a hill in the country and my neighbors are able to use it just fine from 400 yards out! They do have a repeater set up. I recommend limiting your firewall on the router to known unsafe sites and using norton or mcaffee for most firewall and virus scanning. I've been getting measured speed of 280-300 mbps wireless and 500-700 mbps wired. It drops alot during the frequent lightning storms here off comcast cable but the ups I use have kept it all running with no failures. *****Highly Recommendend.

It was not as easy to set up as promised, but not too bad. I have a computer in a difficult spot that used to get spotty wireless reception on G protocol. With this router the connectivity strength went from one bar to four....and no more interference from microwave when I stream music. Recommended.
