Expand the range of your wireless home network. The Wireless-G Range Expander is the easy way to increase the effective coverage of your wireless network.
Unlike adding a traditional access point to your network to expand wireless coverage, the Wireless-G Range Expander does not need to be connected to the network by a data cable. Just put it within range of your main access point or wireless router. It is designed to "bounce" signals into those distant, reflective corners and hard-to-reach areas where wireless coverage is spotty and cabling is impractical. This "relay station" or "repeater" approach helps to build a wireless infrastructure and save wiring costs.
The Wireless-G Range Expander works with most Wi-Fi certified access points and wireless routers. And it works in with both Wireless-G and Wireless-B devices so you'll get the benefits of increased coverage even with a mixed network.
Installation is a snap with the Auto Configuration button. Just plug it in and press the button. The Expander is designed to find your wireless network and configure itself automatically.

This product does indeed work, but how well is up for interpretation. I could not find any mfr. specification on exactly how much the range is extended with this device. I was hoping to get a signal to an outbuilding, but was disappointed. I was able to get the expander to work inside my house and was able to notice a definite improvement in signal strength, as measured on my laptop, from one end of my two-story house to the other, and upper story to lower story. I had to rely on my knowledge of networks, not the installation instructions, to get the device up and running--thus the 3-star rating.

I read reviews from several sites and they all said basically the same thing: This thing works most of the time, IF you can set it up. So, I printed some directions from a forum where several people got it working and I gave it a whirl.
They didn't work. Not even close.
And (of course) neither did the disc. So, I tried something novel. I called tech support. Lots of review bemoaned the awful tech support, but I waited about 3 minutes and got to speak to Lloyd. He acted as if this was the 200th time today he'd gotten a call on this product, and it probably was. So he politely asked it he could remotely access my PC. We set up a session and he configured the expander for me. Done in 10 minutes.
So, kudos to Linksys/Cisco for the support. If you're wondering what he did, he assigned a static IP to my TCP/IP (192.168.1.50) and then connected directly the the expander. He changed the broadcast channel and set the SSID to match my router. And that was it. (I had already stripped off all security.) After he finished and it was working I went back and turned on security and changed the SSID on my router and then made the matching changes on the expander. In order to make those (or any) changes to the expander you'll have to be hard wired to it (there's a port on the front) and retain your static IP on your computer.
Yes, believe every word about the difficulty of setting it up. And yes, throw the provided disc away or use it as a coaster. And yes, swallow your tech-pride and call support and let them do it for you.

Unit performs as advertised. Boosted my wifi signal by at least 50% in the farthest reaches of my home. Allowed me to use my Ipod Touch (wifi) in my backyard (something I couldn't do before). Setup was easy as well.

Linksys WRE54G is the best device in its category! Range is broad and its fast. Weaknes is that it does not have the N-mode. Setup is easy if the main default Gateway on the Wireless router is based on 192.168.0.1

Product seemed compatible with my cisco wireless G router but kept getting some error message about AP repeater mode. Currently collecting dust in my floor, and I still don't have internet in my bedroom. :(
