"Not worth the premium price" 2010-06-10
By Sunny Singh (Los Angeles, CA)
I had a lot of success with D-Link routers in the past, and figured this would be the best router on the market. Boy was I wrong. The range was horrible, the N at 5GHz barely worked on my laptop which is less than 100 feet away from the router (and was not a reliable connection), and it flat out did not provide the range I expected. Even after disabling 5GHz N mode entirely, the range was still extremely poor. My old DIR-655 was a much better option (excluding the 5GHz N capability). Now going to give the Netgear simultaneous dual-band router (WNDR3700) a try and hope that it fares better.

Good product - technical support quick to get off the phone. A technical support attitude adjustment is needed. All these major technology vendors need one.

"WTH? $300+ and keeps dropping the WAN Connection" 2010-03-24
By A. Rodriguez (New Jersey)
Well, I've had the router for about 3 months and it worked but I kept noticing in the last 2 weeks that I would get delays when trying to connect to a web page. So, of course, I checked out the support page and downloaded the latest firmware upgrade 1.22NA.

Well, that seems to have been a mistake!

I found by doing a constant ping to an external web site and a constant ping to the router's IP address, I was dropping packets to the external web site.

If I logged onto the router immediately, I'd find the IP address (via DHCP) on the WAN port of the router had dropped or if it was still listed on the status page, 2-10 seconds later it would inexplicably drop. Ridiculous piece of junk!!

For this price, absolutely not worth it!! I'll spend the money for a Cisco instead. At least they support their products!!

"Product Advertisements Are All Lies" 2010-02-16
By G. Press
This router is marketed as 5ghz capable and having the best throughput of draft-N routers on the market. I run an IT company and have more than a fair amount of experience with routers be they wired or wireless. These high-end home products do not in any way live up to what D-Link claims. Having purchased their DAP-1522 as well, I have been unsuccessful in streaming media between these two devices over 5ghz/N. The devices are 25ft apart and the dropouts make the device useless. D-Link's own tech support has spent hours attempting to prove to me that these devices will work together and a quick survey of the web will provide the facts: the 5ghz performance is abysmal and you are being charged a handsome premium while D-Link laughs it's way all the way to the bank.

There should be a product recall and/or legal action on the behalf of consumers that were fooled by the marketing. I sadly am one of them and while I suppose caveat emptor needs to be our creed, it is saddening to be in an industry where a company this large refuses to take responsibility for false advertising.

Wrote this up in their forums and asked others to comment and they blocked me...interesting:

Interesting that they just blocked the posting.

"Going back to Linksys G" 2010-01-24
By Andre Choquette (Vancouver BC Canada)
Thought I would try this router and have had nothing but problems. Running the lastest firmware, and have found only G access to be stable... So, while I can not return it, I will flog it on Ebay or craigslist and have just purchased the trusty Linksys G router...

Sorry DLink but this product really did not work for me, very upset over the high cost.... But hey I know the Linksys G will work, been using it at home for years....
