 "Near-perfect compatibility" 2010-09-22
By cardiffman
This device was an upgrade from a previous 802.11b equivalent also from SMC. All the wireless devices I have interfaced to it have worked except one, the D-Link wireless gaming adapter attached to my XBox-360. I had to buy a new interface for that.

The devices that have inter-operated include:

Lenovo laptops running Windows XP or Windows 7 and occasionally using Windows' VPN.

Apple iPad, including occasional VPN usage.

Apple Mac Mini

Limetech unRAID server via wired connection

Acer Aspire Revo nettop running XBMC Live via wired connection

Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter

Special setup use-cases:

Setting up a static IP address can be confusing. I ended up finding another way to solve my problem instead of using static IP.

I haven't tried setting up any servers to be accessible from the Internet. I haven't done any gaming over the net.

 "Antennas are NOT replaceable!" 2010-08-07
By --NonaB (Lexington, Ky.)
This router provided only a marginal improvement over the Netgear router it replaced. I actually had to call customer service for help with configuration. The gentleman in India had to call his supervisor for help. Hint: DISABLE WI-FI by selecting the "Advanced" tab. Then select "Wi-Fi Protected Setup" and uncheck "Enable." Once configured, I discovered that the antennas don't screw in, and thus are not replaceable. I just assumed, based on their appearance, that they did. I pulled on one and removed it partially, and wires came along, but once replaced, no harm was done. I'm somewhat disappointed, and feel I should have spent more money on another more powerful router, or one which had replaceable antennas for more range.

 "Great Router, Vista Cure" 2010-07-22
By DrP (Centennial, CO)
This router is very easy to set up, and I am NOT a network engineer or a techie by any means. The quick set up instructions were easy to follow, and I had the wireless up and running and a printer connected in no time. I did, however, experience the connectivity issue with Windows Vista. My desktop would not connect to the internet, even though it was telling me there was no connection issue. I remembered a review on here saying that Vista was a problem, so I went to my laptop that runs XP, got onto the SMC website and downloaded the latest firmware update. I put it on a jumpdrive, followed the easy SMC instructions to upload the firmware, and presto, the desktop worked perfectly. Great download speeds so far, and no problems. So, if you are running Vista, either load the update on to a jumpdrive or put it on your desktop before you disconnect your other router, and you should be good.

This works great! My Xbox 360 slim connects instantantly using the wireless N, the NAN is "open" using this router right out of the box, My Ipod Touch connects without difficulty, my computer system works without problems, the wireless has great range, my Call of Duty 2 doesn't lag using the wireless N. Lifetime factory warranty, No worries with this purchase!

 "Great router" 2010-07-05
By Independent Thinker
Everything I hoped for. This router is a huge improvement over the last two Belkins. I've had it a couple of months and no problems so far. It's speedy, reliable, and well made. If it lasts, then it is a fantastic deal.
