 "Very good product" 2010-09-15
By Gasp!
We use it every day.

It is reliable.

It is hassle free.

It has good customer support.

The only thing that may enhance this product is the addition of a clip. We glued a clip onto the device and hang it from the top of the window. Not only does keep the shelf free of clutter, sometimes it improves reception. Even without the modification, it is a good product.

"The only reasonably priced router with this much product support." 2010-09-02
By D. Cook (Arizona)
I use verizon wireless' UM175 usb dongle for internet, and I spent quite alot of time searching for a means of enabling me to use the bandwidth I already pay for on more than one device at a time. I didn't even have to fiddle with any complicated setup, just plugged it in to the usb port and the cradlepoint negotiated the connection in 2 minutes flat and without a hitch.

I can connect up to 16 devices wirelessly with this router, including my laptops, psp and wii. Security was easy to set up, but not even entirely necessary as it requires the last 6 digits of the router's mac address as a default setting. Setting up enhanced security was easy with a very user friendly interface.

I do notice a VERY slight decrease (approx 10%)in internet/data speeds through this device, not enough to be a problem but it is enough that I noticed.

The only other router that officially supports the UM175 is another cradlepoint router that costs over $200. According to verizon support, the only way to share an internet account on more than one device is to buy their Mifi (which is also $200, and would require my signing a new contract and losing my grandfathered unlimited plan), so I am extremely satisfied-a $75 price tag and a minute loss of speed is a small price to pay for what I'm getting with this cradlepoint.

It cannot be run on batteries and didn't come with a dc adaptor to make it truly portable, but the adaptor input is pretty standard...I had several lying around the house that worked.

It's also very small-palm sized-and without the usual wires and antennas it is much less of an eyesore than most routers.

 "Didn't work for me ..." 2010-08-14

... And I had to return it. Seller charged a restocking fee and I had to pay postage both ways - so the whole thing was a disaster.

"Router WIN, Amazon shipping policy FAIL" 2010-08-13
By JD (NY, USA)
WIN: This little router is great! Setup took maybe 5 minutes, and that only because I wanted to set a password to control access to my wireless network. I live in a rural area in Puerto Rico, where the only means of getting an internet connection is via mobile broadband. I have an external Yagi antenna plugged into my 3G usb modem (Sierra Wireless 598U from Sprint), and the usb modem plugged into the router. The router signal covers my entire house and porch--despite concrete walls throughout.

FAIL: Amazon (incl. Marketplace) doesn't ship electronics to Puerto Rico, so I had to get the router from an eBay store, although I would have preferred to get it from a well-known seller. Heads up, Amazon, you're missing out on customers! Puerto Rico is part of the US and the US postal system, what's with the discrimination? If a small company selling on eBay can ship to Puerto Rico, you should be able to as well.

"Works great....just make sure to update the firmware" 2010-08-11
By Ron V. (Los Angeles)
I bought this so I could share my T-Mobile webConnect subscription with my iPhone and especially WiFi-only iPad when I'm away from a hotspot, or at a hotel and don't want to pay for their crummy, overpriced internet access.

Upon plugging it in, it wouldn't connect to T-Mobile, despite the particular USB stick I was using being on the list of supported devices. But upon upgrading the firmware, it works flawlessly.

The firmware was only one revision off too...February 2010 (May 2010 was the latest as of this writing). Yet it was outdated enough to not recognize the USB stick I was using.

Moral of the story...if it doesn't appear to work out of the box, try upgrading the firmware to the latest version before sending it back or contacting Tech Support.
