This is basically the DIR-655 router with an LED screen on the hood, but side by side I have not experienced any different in game, bit-torrent or general network performance. It has however proven to be the least reliable of the two. I had this router for a month, towards the end it was running very hot, until it literally cooked off. Getting it RMA'd was a hassle--no worse then dealing with Linksys or Netgear though--but they got it back to me the same week, and had upgraded both the hardware and software.
Personally I would recommend the D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Gigabit Wireless Router over the DGL-4500, it's essentially the same router without all the extra eye candy and at a lower price.

D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Selectable Dual Band Draft 802.11n Gaming Router
No problems at all in installing the router with my vista o/s. I was up in running in less than 15 minutes. This is my third D-link router and all are still up and running. I use my old ones as wireless access points. I used to by only Linksys products until they were bought out. A great product and a good value.

I've had this product just over a month now and it really doesn't get any easier. We were having frequent disconnects with the previous linksys router, problems have all dissapeared with this beauty. We've had this for over a month and only had to reset the power once, other than that it just works. Would definitely reccomend to anyone interested in a reliable wireless router that saves bandwidth for online gaming(without the hassle-filled setup).

Set up was absolutely horrible. I put the installation disk in my computer and fallowed the instructions to the T. Somehow my computer couldnt find the router. After an hour of messing around with it I called customer support. I was connected with someone that reminded me very much of the phone operator from the first transformers movie, who talked very slow, and was very unhelpful. After a hour of this monotone torture i hung up and called asus, whom has nothing to do with the router. Still i was talking to a very helpful women 15 seconds after dialing the number. 5 minutes later i was online.
I bought this $180 router to replace my very used netgear wireless router. With a broken antenna the old netgear was giving my 2 bars at 10 feet, but [...] said i was getting reliable 7mbps download speeds. With the dlink i get full bars at the same distance, but the best speed ive been able to get was 5mbps, with my average test showing 3mbps. I'm going to play with it a little, just because i dont believe that the most expensive router ive ever seen can possible be such a pos. Maybe its me. Anyways my last 3 routers where netgears and ive never had problems setting them up, or had slowdowns. Id recommend avoiding this product, there are much better ones at 1/4 the price.
